Enhance Dropbox Security With Two-Step Verification

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Dropbox launched two-step verification to enhance its security. This was something most of the Dropbox users were waiting for. After so many instances of stolen Dropbox passwords, Dropbox finally installed two-step verification which generates a six digit code which is sent to you by text message whenever you login from a new device or you can generate time-sensitive codes if you have a BlackBerry, Android, iOS or Windows Phone with the Authenticator application.
The method is simple, after enabling the two-step verification, whenever you login to your Dropbox account with your password, you will be asked to enter the security code which you will receive on your mobile device. If you ever lose your mobile, Dropbox also provides you with a  16 digit backup code which can be used to disable two-step verification and open your account. Do keep this backup code in a safe place because it will come handy in case you do not have access to your cell phone.

How To Enable Two Step Verification on Dropbox :

Go to your account’s security page and enable two-step verification. The setting is available under the “Account sign in” heading at the bottom of the page. Click on “change” and follow the instructions and get your backup code. REMEMBER to keep it safe. And download the updated Dropbox app which allows two step verification if you use Dropbox app on your device.
