After speculation as to whether or not AT&T would charge for extra for FaceTime over cellular, the company released a statement today telling customers that they would not charge extra, however to use the feature they would need to move to the new Mobile Share data plan.
AT&T will offer FaceTime over Cellular as an added benefit of our new Mobile Share data plans, which were created to meet customers' growing data needs at a great value. With Mobile Share, the more data you use, the more you save. FaceTime will continue to be available over Wi-Fi for all our customers.
AT&T's new shared data plans, which will be available August 23, provide an easier way to share data with your tablets or other devices on your line. While the shared data plans are not required yet, AT&T is already beginning to push users to there plans and off the current ones.
Sprint has stated Facetime over cellular would be free, while Verizon believes it is "too early" to talk about it.
